Resources around our work with refugee's and asylum seekers

The SVP want to help our young people to turn our concern into action and campaign for the rights of refugees and people seeking asylum. Our resources encourage our Young Vincentians to reflect and learn about the experiences of people seeking sanctuary in our country. It is more important than ever to raise our voices and put our faith into action. Our hope is that these resources will help you to do just that.

Reconciliation Service

Our resources for your Reconciliation Service take into consideration whether the sacrament will be available for the young people or not. Both are available to download here along with the Leader's guide.

Forget-me-not action

As part of the reconciliation service, we are asking your young people and staff to accept the inviation to take action by writing a prayer for those who have had to flee their homes and countries. These petals can then be stuck around the flower centre to create your forget-me-not. Take a photo of your finished flower (and a few close-ups of petals) and email to [email protected] so we can add the digital image to our field of forget-me-nots.

Action and activity ideas

At the end of the leader's guide, you will find a number of ways that you can support your young people to turn their concern into action. Politicians are continually discussing the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in this country. We want our politicians to know that we are welcoming refugees into our communities and into our schools. The time to act is always now. To turn your concern into action, become a social justice champion and use your voice and the voices of the young people you support to speak up for refugees, sign up to our action network here.

Our further discussion resource is now available through the following link. You'll find a presentation, leader's guide and appendix to help further explore the topic of refugees and asylum seekers with your Young People. If you would like a copy of the presentation as a PowerPoint, do get in touch at [email protected] and it can be emailed over to you.
